Freedom
For Autumn Winter 2017 / 2018, designer Francesca Liberatore takes us on a trip through two distinctly different Hyde Parks: Hyde Park, London in the 90’s with a nod to super band Oasis and Hyde Park, New York to the library and home of Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
Liberatore explores the powerful and popular, the effect their words and actions have on society and the role that society plays in shaping or destroying them. The duality intertwines to form a magnifying glass from which we are asked to view the current state of affairs.
Freedom of speech, worship, want, fear, power and promises are the conductors of the collection. Powerful stripes in rich blood orange, brick red, magenta, lime, grey and black harken a progress parade on the world’s stage. Champagne, ivory and pewter are featured through the collection with velvet embellishments, signature embroideries and used as a layering piece.
